Students in the first year Screen Cultures module were recently visited by Nic Benns and Miki Kato joint heads of the award winning media company Momoco:http://www.momoco.co.uk/
Momoco, who are responsible for the title sequences to many critically and commercially successful TV shows and films – including The Inbetweeners 2, Jonny English, 30 Days of Night, Cuban Fury, Ripper Street, The Fades, Fresh Meat, Luther, In the Flesh, The Musketeers, and Hannibal (amongst many others) – came in to speak to the students about their creative process. Nic and Miki talked about their influences, their collaborations with directors and stars such as Ridley Scott, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Spacey, the differences between US and UK media companies, and the problems and pitfalls of set up a small media company.
The visit was extremely well-received by students, with one first year, Robert Nesbitt commenting “The Momoco session was great!” After the talk, Nic and Miki fielded questions from students on a range of subjects.
Talks and workshops by Industry guests such as Nic and Miki are an integral part of the Film and Screens Studies and Media Production courses. The last year alone has seen visits from Momoco, I AM NRC, Lionhead Games, and Inkle.
